Working with mockups in Photoshop might seem complicated at first glance, but in reality, it's quite a straightforward process.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to work with mockups in Photoshop:

1. Open the mockup source file in Photoshop just like you would with any regular file ("File" -> "Open").
2. In the opened mockup, locate the layer you want to replace with your design. Typically, this would be a "smart object" layer or a layer with a mask.
3. Double-click on the smart object layer. This will open a separate window where you can edit the content of the layer.
4. Ensure that your design, which you want to add to the mockup, is ready and possibly saved as a separate file. Copy your design and paste it onto the layer in the opened mockup. Alternatively, you can drag and drop directly from your folder.
5. Save the changes to the smart object layer. Close the window with the smart object layer's editing.
6. Return to your main mockup window in Photoshop. Your design will automatically update on the mockup.
7. If necessary, you can further edit the size, position, and settings of the design on the mockup.
8. Once satisfied with the result, save your project in PSD format to be able to edit it later.
For exporting the final image with the mockup, select "File" -> "Export" -> "Save for Web".
